A Bit About the Course…

“We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths. Don’t let fear or insecurity stop you from trying new things.” — Walt Disney

Professor Youth

My name is Gail Youth and I am a Web and Graphic Design professor at Montgomery College in Rockville, Maryland. One of the courses that I teach, GDES/ARTT116, is a survey course which examines the digital tools used in the visual arts. Students are exposed to the theory and function of the major software packages and basic digital design principles utilized in the visual arts. Topics include operating systems, typography, vector and bitmap imaging, page layout, PDF creation and editing, timeline-based video editing, file transfer, output, web, emerging technologies, and other material relative to the digital visual arts workflow.

At the beginning of the semester, each student chooses a country that they will focus on to create their assignments. The idea is for each assignment to relate to the culture, natural habitat, foods, etc. for each country-of-choice. The result has been phenomenal. From skylines to logos to mouth-watering recipes, each student has put their all into their projects.

While this site serves as a my WordPress demonstration for my students, it more importantly showcases some of the wonderful works produced by my classes. I hope you enjoy viewing their efforts.
